Current Projects

The Planning Department is currently working on the following projects. Please email the Department at planning@falmouthma.gov with any questions.

Emerald Properties Project

This "Emerald Properties Project" is a town initiative intended to 1) help address the ongoing affordable housing crisis, 2) create an all-inclusive, multi-generational play space, 3) respect the historic significance of the Emerald House, and 4) continue to provide a place for the Community Gardens. Specifically, the town hopes to use the available land on #67 and #81 Davisville Road in East Falmouth to bring all of these uses together. Zoning Bylaw Recodification

The Zoning Bylaw Recodification project is a muti-phase effort to reorganize and simplify the town's Zoning Bylaw and to correct inconsistencies and inaccuracies. Zoning Bylaws are typically changing from year to year as new ideas are presented or other factors come to light that require modifications. That said, as years pass, it is essential to make sure that the Zoning Bylaw is still consistent and understandable. Read more about this project and the ongoing work on the dedicated webpage.

Open Space and Recreation Plan

The Open Space and Recreation Plan project includes updating our open space and recreation resources inventories, assessing community needs, and outlining actions for the next seven years. Importantly, updating this plan will make the Town eligible for state funding, which can be used for projects such as creating new parks, acquiring lands with critical habitat, and expanding trail networks. Davis Straits Form Based Code

The Davis Straits Form Based Code project is an effort to change the zoning in the Davis Straits area from a typical use-based regulation into a form-based situation. In other words, the concept is to control the "look and feel" of the district by design rather than by use. This initiative is an outgrowth of the Davis Straits RESET study completed by the Cape Cod Commission in 2019, which recommended this zoning modification.
