Accomplishments to date include:
  • Viability Test Completed (summer 2012)
  • Conservation Commission Notice of Intent (NOI) hearing and Order of Conditions issued on May 10, 2013
  • Department of Marine Fisheries Permit obtained
  • Oyster Aquaculture Demonstration Program Plan Developed
  • Staffing hired and equipment and shellfish purchased
  • Seed installed in town upweller
  • Floating nursery and grow-out bags established in Little Pond
  • Installation of first batch of oysters into Little Pond, July 1, 2013
  • Second batch anticipated by July 31, 2013
  • Second year of Demonstration in full swing
  • Monitoring Plan formalized with MA DEP and Falmouth Conservation Commission
Accomplishments - first year:
  • First batch relayed to other Falmouth estuaries for 6-month duration, further growth and harvest by recreational and commercial shellfishers in October 2014.
  • Second batch prepared for relay
  • Second year of oysters growing in Little Pond
