Members

The Committee has 7 members, appointed by the Selectmen who serve staggered 3-year terms. The members have experience in various phases of building construction oversight and management. The names, phone numbers, addresses and email addresses of all the Committee members are available from the Receptionist.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Building Committee to assist departments or groups who wish to construct, alter, renovate or remodel buildings which will be using, in whole or in part, Town funds for the work.

Duties

The Committee assigns 2 members to assist the requesting department in preparing an RFP for a design team and the RFP for construction. The Committee works with a small group of users, forming a sub-committee chaired by one of the full Committee members to oversee the project from design to completion. The Building Committee recommends a selection for the design team to the Town Administrator for appointment by the Selectmen and similarly with the construction firm.

The Building Committee reviews progress of a project each month, receives a report from the Clerk of the Works for each project and approves all invoices and change orders for the projects.

Ideally, a department or group will consult with the Building Committee before releasing a dollar figure for design and construction. The Committee can then suggest a reasonable figure for the proposed project prior to a public announcement of the value of the design and construction project.
