Shellfish Reminders

Per the MA Division of Marine Fisheries, the recreational shellfishing season in the West Falmouth Harbor Family Area is planned to open on Sunday, October 16, 2022. The rest of West Falmouth Harbor will be open to recreational shellfishing this day as well. Commercial shellfishing in West Falmouth Harbor is planned to open on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. The West Falmouth Family Area will be re-seeded with harvestable oysters in mid-November. ***Please note that this planned October opening is pending testing by the MA Division of Marine Fisheries.***
The remainder of fall/winter seasonal shellfishing areas are anticipated to open on November 15, 2022, with the Great Pond Family Area anticipated to open the following Saturday, November 19, 2022. Currently open summer seasonal areas will close on November 15, 2022.
The abovementioned dates do not apply to the taking of bay scallops, which is permitted starting Saturday, October 1, 2022.
