Eversource is working on a new submarine line between Falmouth and Martha's Vineyard that requires installation of duct banks in Falmouth roads and the Shining Sea Bikeway between Stephens Lane and Mill Road/Surf Drive.
Week of April 8
As of March 6, 2024 crews will no longer be installing manholes along Mill Road. This will allow for residential access to Mill Road from the north entrance at Woods Hole Road. Residents on Mill Road can expect one lane of traffic to be open on Mill Road when heading south towards Surf Drive.
Please note that the current detour will still be in effect for thru traffic due to crews continuing to install duct bank along sections of Mill Road. Duct bank installation activities are expected to continue up until early April. Eversource works with local officials to ensure traffic is managed in a manner that maintains safe working conditions and minimizes impacts to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Please note that local officials may make in field alterations as necessary.
This week, you may see crews:
- Working on installation of manholes and duct bank along Mill Road and the Mill Road parking lot. Activities will include saw-cutting pavement and minor excavation. Please refer to the detour map below for details and follow all local detour signage.
- Installing dewatering systems along Mill Road. Dewatering systems are installed to remove excess water from excavation zones.

Approved work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday to Friday. Occasional work may extend beyond the approved hours due to unforeseen circumstances, based on approval from municipal staff. For real time construction updates, please view online interactive construction map.
At this time, the construction will not interrupt your electrical service, and all people working on this project are Eversource-approved contractors and carry proper identification. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the project, please call 1-833-836-0302 or email at ProjectInfoMA@eversource.com.
