Drowning is the leading cause of death in children under the age of 5, and 87% of drowning fatalities happen in home pools or hot tubs. The Inspectional Services team wants to remind every pool owner to be vigilant. While pool safety covers allow one to eliminate a fence around a pool, an accident can still occur. Please remember to only have your pool cover open when you are actively using your pool. If you rely on a fence for safety, make sure it’s sturdy and in good condition. If you have a gate, make sure it closes properly, and if you have an above ground pool with a ladder, make sure the ladder is lifted or removed from the pool and secured.
