Several people have reported being stung by jellyfish in the last few days. Beaches on both sides of town have reported stings. Several people have observed jellyfish in the water at Chapoquoit and Old Silver Beaches. Many boaters report seeing large numbers of jellyfish near shore. They are described as being 3 to 5 inches in diameter with tentacles 12 to 18 inches long. Additionally, a Portuguese Man of War was removed from Surf Drive Beach this week. Please avoid contact at all cost since the stings from these jellyfish and the Man of War are quite painful. See the lifeguards if stung; they are prepared to help treat the sting. Seek immediate medical treatment if stung after hours or on beaches without lifeguards.
