Great Pond Maravista Embayment Shoaling
Be advised the town has received inquiries about and is aware of increased shoaling in the Great Pond Channel. The primary problem area is located north of the bridge near buoys 3 & 4. The town has adjusted the channel markers slightly to address this situation thereby marking best water.
The town does not currently have dredging permits for the area affected by this shoal and therefore no dredging is anticipated in this area for 2021. Also, the area in question is part of the embayment which means dredging is not allowed by the Department of Environmental Protection from January 15th to June 30th annually.
Boaters are advised to use caution while transiting the area and be mindful of the tides when entering or exiting the pond.
