WINTER STORM UPDATE TO FALMOUTH RESIDENTS
Monday, January 31, 2022 9AM
The “bomb-cyclone” winter blizzard which Falmouth and all of the country’s northeast encountered on Saturday, January 29 delivered record-setting snow, extreme winds and ultimately very cold temperatures. Well over 16,000 Falmouth customers were without power during the height of this storm. With the diligent and committed assistance of EverSource representatives, including considerable support from Falmouth Public Works, Police and Fire, fewer than 100 customers remained without power as of Sunday evening, January 30.
I thank Falmouth residents for your assistance, patience and understanding as Falmouth’s public safety and public works personnel responded to perform and maintain all critical public services during this historic storm which delivered 15-20 inches of snow to our area along with damaging winds and blizzard conditions throughout much of Saturday. Recovery and restoration operations continue through the day today, including follow-up actions by Public Works to deal with the extreme quantities of plowed snow now adjacent to roadways and parking areas. The low temperatures encountered diminish the effectiveness of salt applied to the roadways. This situation will improve with further sun and moderating temperatures over the next couple of days.
Please continue to exercise caution with vehicular travel on Town roadways as this restoration work is ongoing. Stay safe and warm.
