[ARCHIVED] Falmouth Open Space and Recreation Plan Public Workshop

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 24, 2022…  The Town of Falmouth wants to hear from residents! The Town of Falmouth is updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan, which inventories open space and recreation resources, assesses community needs, and outlines an action plan for the next seven years. On November 3, 2022, a virtual public workshop will be held from 6-7:30 pm (click here to register in advance)It will give residents an opportunity to talk about why protecting open space is important, what lands need protection, what type of recreation is needed most, and how existing recreation areas could be improved. There will be a short presentation, followed by facilitated small groups to talk about future needs for open space protection and recreation.

Public input is important, and in addition to the workshop on November 3, an online community survey is available through November 11, 2022 (click here to take the survey). Paper copies are also available upon request from the Falmouth Planning Department.

The update process includes reviewing inventories of environmental resources, open space and recreational lands, and unique historic and cultural resources. It also requires evaluating current goals and objectives and the action plan of the existing plan. Discussions during the public workshop and responses to the community survey will help inform this evaluation.

The Open Space and Recreation Plan must be current and have state approval in order for the Town to continue to be eligible for state funding, which can be used for projects such as creating new parks, acquiring lands with critical habitat, and expanding trail networks.

The update process involves all town departments, committees, and boards to ensure the plan is relevant and feasible. It is very important that there is public input into this process.
