[ARCHIVED] Soil Borings in Teaticket Area for Sewer Design - Starting 4/3/24

Starting Wednesday April 3rd, the Town’s subcontractor, Desmond Well Drilling, will begin performing soil boring work in the streets in the Great Pond Phase 1 sewer area (the area outlined in red in the figure below) and in the streets along the pipe route from that area to the Town's Main wastewater treatment facility (route shown with a dashed line in the figure below) and at the two sewer lift station sites (shown with green dots in the figure below).

The soil borings will provide information needed for design of the system to collect wastewater from the Great Pond Phase 1 sewer area (northeastern Maravista and the Teaticket Path peninsula) and convey it to the Town's treatment facility.

Soil boring work will be performed with a drilling rig, with a layout in the roadway approximately as shown on the picture above, i.e., occupying one lane.  Roadway soil borings will be 8-10” in diameter and 10-20’ deep, and will be conducted approximately every 300' in the roads where sewers are planned.  The contractor will generally perform 3-5 soil borings per day, so the rig will not generally remain in one spot for more than a few hours at a time.  After the soil borings are completed, the holes will be backfilled and then patched with asphalt.

The soil boring work is expected to take approximately 2-3 months to complete.
