Eversource is working on a new submarine line between Falmouth and Martha's Vineyard that requires installation of duct banks in Falmouth roads and the Shining Sea Bikeway between Stephens Lane and Mill Road/Surf Drive.
Monday, March 24 - Friday, March 28 Update
SHINING SEA BIKEWAY:
Next Week:
- Crews will continue pulling underground electric cable through the previously installed conduit or duct bank.
- Crews will also perform work to widen the bike path ahead of paving, which will occur in the upcoming weeks.
Please Note:
- Work will continue through the winter months and is anticipated to be completed by early spring of 2025. A suggested detour is in place to accommodate work on the bike path, which is closed between Ter Heun Drive and Locust Street (see map below).
- The Depot Ave parking lot, located at 81 Depot Ave, is also closed for the duration of this work.
SURF DRIVE:
Next Week:
- Crews will continue construction in the Mill Rd parking lot (located at Mill Road and Surf Drive).
- Crews will continue horizontal directional drilling (HDD) in the Surf Drive parking lot (located at Surf Drive and Shore Street).
- HDD is a construction technique that involves drilling a tunnel under a waterway or other designated area and pulling a pipeline through the drilled underground tunnel. At times, this work will be performed continuously, seven days a week (24/7).
Please Note:
- A portion of the Surf Drive parking lot, located at 56 Surf Drive will be cordoned off and closed for the duration of this work.
- The Mill Road parking lot, located at the corner of Mill Road and Surf Drive, is also closed for the duration of this work.
Construction Hours: Monday through Friday, 7am-6pm

Occasional work may extend beyond the approved hours due to unforeseen circumstances, based on approval from municipal staff. For real time construction updates, please view online interactive construction map.
At this time, the construction will not interrupt your electrical service, and all people working on this project are Eversource-approved contractors and carry proper identification.
