Town of Falmouth to Host Community Forum to Address Noise Bylaw Update
FALMOUTH, Mass., August 29, 2025 – The Town of Falmouth will host a community forum on Wednesday, September 10, to solicit community input on an update to the noise bylaw, Chapter 150 of the Falmouth Town Code.
The community forum will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the All Purpose Room of the Gus Canty Community Center at 790 Main Street.
The current bylaw references vague standards and prohibits certain noise if it is plainly audible at 150 feet. “These standards can be difficult to enforce and also make it difficult to site recreational facilities,” said Town Manager Mike Renshaw. The Town commissioned a noise study to evaluate potential locations to construct a pickleball court and to provide context for establishing objective, measurable noise standards that can be incorporated in a new noise bylaw. “We are seeking to establish a community standard for what level of noise is acceptable that balances the interests of homeowners to have protection from excessive noise and the interests of homeowners, businesses, and local government to conduct activities that generate some level of sound,” he continued.
The noise study and existing bylaw can be found at the following website.
