[ARCHIVED] Beach Info

Several people have reported being stung by jellyfish in the last few days. Beaches on both West and South sides have reported stings. Several people have of observed jellyfish in the water at Chapoquoit and Old Silver Beaches. The Harbormaster reports that there are some present near shore but many more out in the sound near the Middle Ground.  These jellyfish are described as being 3 to 5 inches in diameter with tentacles 12 to 18 inches long. Additionally, a Portuguese Man of War was removed from Surf Drive Beach this week.  Please avoid contact at all cost since the stings from these jellyfish and the Man of War  are quite painful.  See the lifeguards if stung; they are prepared to help treat the sting.  Seek immediate medical treatment if stung after hours or on beaches without lifeguards.
