[ARCHIVED] Press Release - Updated Water Sampling Results

PRESS RELEASE

The Town of Falmouth Water Department has just received the water sampling results that were recently taken as per guidance from the State Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), at each of the Town’s five fire stations as well as a location at Fiddler’s Cove Marina in Wild Harbor and as discussed at the Selectmen’s Meeting on Monday, January 13.

All samples were confirmed as below the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) value of 7 million fibers per liter for asbestos that we understand is applicable per DEP and EPA Regulations.  Samples from each of the Town’s five Fire Stations were confirmed as “non-detect,” with a detection limit of 170,000 fibers per liter.  The sample from the Fiddler’s Cove Marina was detected at 190,000 fibers per liter which indicates that this sample is less than 3% of the (maximum) MCL value for asbestos (190,000/7,000,000).

We are reporting these sample results to the DEP as per standard procedure and we will await their further guidance relative to additional sampling.
