[ARCHIVED] Tropical Storm Henri Update August 22nd 12:00PM

PUBLIC NOTICE – TROPICAL STORM HENRI

August 22, 2021 12 Noon

We are advised that Henri, recently downgraded to a Tropical Storm due to somewhat diminished prevailing winds, is making landfall in Rhode Island early afternoon today. Prevailing winds in Falmouth are reported at 20-35 mph with peak wind gusts approaching 40 mph. All emergency operations departments are involved in storm response. The Falmouth Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been operational since midnight. The EOC can be reached at (508) 495-2602.

Temporary flooding of Town roadways is occurring due to scattered rainfall as well as periodic storm surges. Public Works is blocking such roadways as they are reported. All municipal beach parking lots remain closed to discourage individuals and vehicles being in harm’s way with the storm surges which are predicted to occur. Residents are asked to continue sheltering in place and to avoid any unnecessary vehicle trips during the continuation of this storm. Public Works is also responding to downed limbs which block roadways. Such operations can reasonably occur as long as electrical lines are not entangled in such downed limbs. In these cases, downed limb removal cannot occur until EverSource crews have responded to clear the downed electrical wires.

The Town webpage will be updated periodically over the coming 24 hours as this situation further proceeds – www.falmouthma.gov.

As a reminder, residents and visitors can also sign up to receive alerts for this and future emergency events via phone call, text message, email and/or social media via a new alert system: FalmouthAlert. To start receiving such alerts from the Town, text ‘falmouthmaalert’ to 67283 or visit https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=falmouthma to sign up for these alerts.
