Trotting Park Youth Baseball Fields Community Forum

Thursday, May 22, 2025

6:30pm – 8:00pm

Lawrence Middle School Auditorium


PURPOSE: The Town of Falmouth invites the public to attend a community forum to address the findings of a site investigation commissioned by the Town after unsuitable fill material with glass and metal debris were found during installation of lighting at the Trotting Park Youth Baseball fields.  

 AGENDA:

 6:30pm 

    1. Town Manager Mike Renshaw will overview actions the Town is taking to protect public health and restore the site for youth baseball
    2. A representative of Arcadis U.S. Inc., the firm retained by the Town to conduct the site investigation, will describe the environmental testing procedures and findings.
    3. Public Works Director Peter McConarty will outline the steps to be taken to prepare designs for remediation and reconstruction of the ballfields.
    4. Public Comment: Questions and comments from community members

BACKGROUND: The youth baseball fields at Trotting Park were closed to the public on January 9, 2025 when soil sample test results were received indicating lead concentrations above Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection health risk-based standards at Field 1. Arrangements have been made for Falmouth Youth Baseball to use other fields in Falmouth for the 2025 season. The Town has secured funding to prepare designs and specifications for remediating and reconstructing these fields.
