Downtown Parking Management & Wayfinding Signage Plan Project
The town of Falmouth, through the Planning Department, has undertaken the following two projects aimed at improving conditions in the Downtown area.
- The Downtown Parking Management Plan will evaluate the downtown area's current parking system, quantify parking usage, identify current needs, and provide recommendations for future improvements.
- The Wayfinding Signage Plan will produce wayfinding signage recommendations for both physical signs as well as possible technological options. The signage plan will facilitate improved movement for motorists, transit users, pedestrians, and bicyclists in downtown Falmouth by providing signage to show clear routes to places of interest.
Parking Management Plan
Help the Planning Department understand current parking trends and future demands so the Town can identify opportunities to improve the current parking experience for businesses, residents, and visitors alike. Fill out a public survey below and make sure to attend an Open House Event.

Wayfinding Signage Plan
The Planning Department is working with the Cape Cod Commission to develop the town's first ever Wayfinding Signage Plan, based on the work completed for the Town of Orleans. This Wayfinding Signage Plan was originally identified as a need by the Transportation Management Committee in their 2021 Improving Access to Downtown Report. Specifically, the report recommended improving alternative connectivity by increasing helpful signage that would direct bicyclists and pedestrians to key destinations in the downtown.
Wayfinding is a system of visual cues - signs, landscaping, pavement markings, or other objects that help people orient themselves in physical space and navigate from place to place. A well-designed wayfinding system reflects community identity and directs people to key destinations and spaces. The Wayfinding Plan initiative includes data/information collection and analysis, public surveys, signage design concepts, and implementation strategies.
