Recreational Camps for Children

A licensed recreational camp for children may take a number of different forms.  It could be a day camp or an overnight camp, there may be horseback riding, swimming, sailing, or camping.  Whatever form the camp takes, if it fits the definition of a recreational camp then it will need to be licensed and inspected by the Board of Health and  must follow the standards laid out in 105 CMR 430.000: Minimum Standards for Recreational Camps for Children (State Sanitary Code, Chapter IV).  

Please note that all children attending recreational camps must meet the immunization requirements for the grade they will enter in the school year following their camp session.  Children attending camp who are not yet school aged should follow the Childcare/Preschool immunization requirements.  This document is included in the below list, and a summary is shown in the following table.
